While at Coachella, Under the Radar caught up with M83 keyboardist (and sometimes contributing blogger) Morgan Kibby to discuss her solo project, White Sea. We learned that M83’s Anthony Gonzalez may appear on a forthcoming White Sea track. (via M83’s Anthony Gonzalez May Appear on a White Sea Track | Under The Radar)

You have Morgan Kibby to thank for the can’t-get-‘em-out-of-your-head lyrics of “Midnight City.” A vital part of M83 since 2008’s Saturdays=Youth, Kibby has been responsible for her fair share of “lighters aloft” moments in the French/Los Angeleno collective, writing lyrics and providing vocals for the electonic/ambient/shoegaze/dance group. Currently touring behind M83’s 2011 album, Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming, she has also been hard at work on her solo project, White Sea. (via White Sea: Riding the Wave | Under The Radar)

God. Getting onto that plane in Singapore was hard. Luckily we all had rows to ourselves, it being a pretty empty flight, and we all slept soundly and arrived in London a lot less cranky than expected. Our first show of the European leg at Shepherd’s Bush Empire was full and surprisingly fun. I haven’t seen London get excited for anything we’ve done before, but this night was apparently an exception. From then on however, things went a bit downhill: The last two weeks have admittedly been a bit rough, and like so many of my other tour stumbles, this one also starts in Poland. Over the last year I’ve spilt more (digital) ink over Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming than any other album. It’s a fantastic trick that M83 frontman Anthony Gonzalez plays, heavily referencing childhood in his work. Deny M83, and you’re denying your childlike wonder of the world around you…at least, if your childhood was as 1980s-synth driven as mine was. Coming back to Australia, we were all quite peaceful. We had two side shows in Melbourne and we spent each day pre-show at St. Kilda beach, quietly swimming in the ocean and eating popsicles and drinking cold shandies. The shows were so much sweaty fun and once again I have to say I was blown away by the crowd reception. Thank you, Melbourne. It’s amazing how far away I feel whenever I’m in Australia. Far from those I love, far from any semblance of reality…The flight from London to Sydney is brutal. It’s actually debasing. You end up being more animal than human by the end of it, and by the time we arrived in Brisbane I was convinced I was in a waking dream. I’ll be brief on this topic, but our first show of the Laneway Festival was a damn disaster. I have never in my entire career ever felt so embarrassed over a performance. Between the insane tech difficulties and starting the show ten minutes before curfew…it was just a nightmare. Entering and leaving a stage to boos and hollers is one thing, but knowing we couldn’t do our best despite all efforts is a shameful thing. We are genuinely sorry, Brisbane.
