In 2002, when indie kids in the U.S. looked to Sweden as a hotbed for new music upon the emergence of bands such as The Hives, 16-year-old Li Lykke Timotej Zachrisson was devising her escape from Stockholm. (via :.. Lykke Li | Under The Radar ..:)

16-year-old Miles Heizer plays the introverted, mature-minded Drew Holt on the NBC Tuesday-night dramaParenthood. Although Drew’s sister, Amber (played by Mae Whitman), is a novice singer-songwriter with a giant-sized Tegan and Sara poster on her wall, Under the Radar learned, while looking into the show’s occasional Tegan and Sara references, that Heizer is passionate about music and a fan of numerous indie-rock bands, with Beach House currently reigning supreme among them in his estimation. This writer spotted Heizer at a Lykke Li show in Los Angeles last month and struck up a conversation with him about music prior to the performance. With the season finale of Parenthood set to air tomorrow night, now seemed like a good time to find out more about Heizer, to continue the conversation about music, and to settle the mystery of the show’s Tegan and Sara connections.
On her 2008 debut Youth Novels, Lykke Li scored a hit with “I’m Good, I’m Gone” by essentially rewriting Lee Dorsey’s “Working in a Coal Mine.” A clever piece of repositioning for sure, but as part of an album notable for its experimentation, it remained unclear if she could replicate its earwormy success without retread. The answer? Yes. And no.
Under the Radar’s Winter 2011 issue is about to hit stands. The cover features Death Cab for Cutie, who gave writer Matt Fink insight into the band’s forthcoming album, Codes and Keys (due out in May). The article features an exclusive photo shoot with the band conducted by co-publisher/photographer Wendy Lynch Redfern at a creepy former retirement home in Seattle.
n new video for Wounded Rhymes cut “I Follow Rivers” Lykke Li follows a man—rather than a river—across a very chilly beach. Watch for the moment when Li kicks off her shoes and runs across the snow barefoot. That girl is tough!
